GF Video Transfers can transfer VHS tapes, VHS-C tapes (mini VHS), MiniDV camcorder tapes, Video8/Hi8/Digital8, audio cassettes and Cine Film reels to digital.

VHS tapes and audio cassettes are very common and are labelled as such, however you can Google VHS tapes, or Video8 tapes or Cine Reel and compare pictures to your tapes to confirm. Or you are welcome to send us pictures to determine what type of media you have.

GF Video Transfers can transfer your video tapes and reels to DVD, or MP4 video files and audio cassettes to CD or MP3. We can either send them to you via WeTransfer (a free online file transferring service) or place them onto a USB stick for you (this is the most common option).

As VHS, VHS-C and Video8 are old formats, the quality of VHS video tape is not as high quality as modern DVD, Blu-Ray or 4K formats. VHS resolution is around 288 pixels, whereas DVD is 576, Blu-Ray is 1080 and 4K is 2160 pixels.

MiniDV is around DVD quality.

Therefore, analogue VHS quality is below today’s available digital resolutions, and colours are not as rich, but they are still perfectly watchable. GF Video Transfers will get as much quality from the VHS and as possible.

Obviously you can check if a VHS tape or camcorder tape still works by playing it in your VHS player or camcorder, but most people have got rid of their old video players and cameras.

VHS tapes and camcorder tapes are known to be quite durable and long lasting and you may be surprised how long your old tapes have lasted. The same applies to cine film reels.

GF Video Transfers are not responsible for the state of your video tapes but every effort will be made to look after the video tapes and reels as received and return them to you in the condition provided to us.
